The Spin-Clean story began in Chicago around 1974 when Fidelitone Inc., a manufacturer that sold record needles and other record accessories to retailers, created a record-cleaning device called Spin 'n Clean. One of Fidelitone's customers was Record-Rama Sound Archives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (USA), where the owner Paul C. Mawhinney had great success with the product.

In late-2009, Paul C. Mawhinney retired, and the Spin Clean brand passed to his son, Mark, who set about extensively re-engineering the long-established design. From 2010, the new Spin Clean Record Washer System MK II was released, and from that time has quickly spread across the globe – delighting audio enthusiasts everywhere with an affordable vinyl cleaning solution.
