Pro-Ject's new Debut PRO S Balanced continues the popular PRO series of turntables with style. Staying true to their philosophy, Pro-Ject has designed a turntable that encourages a mindful approach to music listening. The Debut PRO S Balanced takes this philosophy to the next level by inviting listeners to interact with the turntable through manual controls. The musical rewards that follow this tactile experience enhance the overall enjoyment of the music.
The Debut PRO S Balanced is designed for mindful music listeners. Those who want to interact with their vinyl intimately, and who seek to achieve a high-performance sound worthy of far more expensive record playing systems.
The turntable features Pro-Ject's new 10-inch s-shaped aluminium tonearm, which is CNC-milled for precision. This design opens up new possibilities for users who wish to experiment with different cartridges, as the Debut PRO S Balanced is equipped with an SME connector. The fully adjustable tonearm allows for deeper exploration of the turntable's sound, enabling a limitless audio experience.
Handmade in Europe with the highest-quality materials, the Debut PRO S Balanced is finished in an eye-catching, all-black satin with hand-painted components, cleverly masking its anti-resonance technologies, and making it a striking addition to any living room.
Examine the new Debut PRO S Balanced closely, and you will find that it contains no hollow spaces or plastic components. Pro-Ject uses only high-quality aluminium parts to ensure the best possible sound quality. The precision CNC-milled components are aesthetically coordinated and contribute to the modern, simple, and unprecedented design of the Debut PRO S Balanced. The Satin Black finish of the aluminium parts results in a beautiful, standout appearance.
The Debut PRO S takes the basic Debut design but expands on it with a new 10” S-Shape tonearm, which fundamentally changes the nature of the turntable. First, the new tonearm features an aluminium tube mounted into a precision milled bearing housing, which sits on top of a mounting plate that allows for VTA adjustment. Secondly, it boasts an SME-type connector for easy switching between headshells – allowing you to build a collection of cartridges that suit different musical styles or types of records.
The new tonearm of the Debut PRO S Balanced allows for adjustments to both the azimuth and the vertical tracking angle (VTA). By loosening two grub screws, users can continuously adjust the tonearm height. These settings enable the tonearm to adapt to height changes, which is useful when using different turntable mats or cartridges, ensuring optimal performance.
The turntable plinth sits on three height-adjustable metal feet with TPE-damping. The result is a platform free from unwanted vibrations, ideally suited to record playback.
The turntable's electronically controlled speed guarantees accuracy and stability. Switching between speeds is easy with a toggle switch, and the included round belt for 78 RPM allows you to enjoy shellac records as well. With the diamond-cut aluminium sub-platter, Pro-Ject ensures perfect speed accuracy while adding mass to the platter and drive system, which further dampens noise and unwanted resonances.
The die-cast aluminium platter undergoes additional precision balancing to achieve perfection. This heavy platter includes a ring made of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) on the inside, which helps dampen resonances and minimise wow and flutter.
Pro-Ject's True Balanced Connection concept has drawn inspiration from professional audio experts, who all make use of balanced audio connections for a reliable, rock-solid performance in their high-pressure environments like live concert venues and recording studios. Pro-Ject’s True Balanced Connection concept intends to extend these benefits to a broader variety of vinyl enthusiasts than ever before.
To make the most out of your Debut Pro B, we would recommend incorporating a Balanced Phono Preamplifier into your system, and using a Mini-XLR to Mini-XLR cable to connect between the two. Learn more about True Balanced here.
Henley Says...
Debut turntables are an iconic in the realm of Hi-Fi, and are constantly evolving, based both on usability feedback and audience demand, along with a desire to keep up with the very latest technologies and materials. The Debut models of today are versatile and reliable devices that more than live up to Pro-Ject's strict high-quality standards, in both build and sound reproduction.
Whilst maintaining the durable build that the Debut series is known for, the Debut PRO S delves deeper into the principles of Hi-Fi by coming supplied with an S-shaped tonearm for improved linear tracking, making the Debut PRO S the perfect turntable for any audiophile on a budget.
We particularly love this turntable for its all-black appearance, giving the turntable a refined, tasteful aesthetic that would fit well in any interior.
Many of our turntables may have multiple compatible counterweights available. The counterweight you actually need is the one that allows you to balance your existing cartridge while ideally sitting near the tonearm bearing when fully installed.
If your counterweight sits right at the back of the tonearm, it runs the risk of introducing some micro-vibrations, so aiming for a counterweight where your cartridge weight is in the lower range of the supported weights is ideal.
To help you make the right decision, we've produced a comprehensive list of all our tonearms and counterweights.
