Debut Carbon DC
The Debut Carbon DC is an affordable hi-fi turntable that is even comfortable in far more expensive hi-fi systems. With all its upgrades and beautiful aesthetics, makes this turntable an even more preferable choice over other turntables.

The original Pro-Ject Debut was released in the late 1990s during a time when CD was king, and the vinyl format was presumed to be all but gone. But nearly two decades (and a few incarnations) later the model still stands, and it deserves a key accreditation in the ongoing success of a rejuvenated vinyl and budget turntable market. The Debut symbolises all that is good about vinyl; it is beautiful to behold and fantastic to listen to, with the right mixture of user-friendliness and opportunity to tweak and upgrade.

Introduced at the beginning of 2012, the Debut Carbon expanded on the Debut III in a variety of ways, but most notably with its one-piece 8.6" carbon fibre tonearm. Using a carbon fibre tonearm at this price is almost unheard of, and allows the newest Debut to outperform all of its competitors. The stiff yet lightweight tonearm provides the perfect properties for the pre-installed Ortofon 2M Red cartridge to sing at its fullest potential.

In addition to the improved tonearm, the full-size 12" main platter offers better performance than any other previous Debut model. The platter is driven by a high-quality motor that is now mounted onto a new Thermo-Plastic Elastomer (TPE) "blob" set. This rubber composition dramatically reduces resonance transference from the motor, further improving the turntable's sound quality.

Since 2014, the Debut Carbon has been upgraded to the Debut Carbon DC. The DC model benefits from a new, upgraded power supply that powers an ultra-precise, DC-driven AC motor generator for superlative speed stability. This added tweak further elevates the Debut Carbon to comfortably be the best Debut model ever.

  • Heavy pressed steel platter for good speed stability and engaging sound
  • Adjustable 8.6" tonearm
  • Light and stiff carbon fibre tonearm tube
  • Factory-mounted Ortofon 2M Red cartridge
  • Isolating non-slip turntable feet

  • Yes, it is possible for this turntable to be upgraded with a true balanced connection to a supporting Pro-Ject phono stage.*

For turntables with an RCA output, you can purchase one of our RCA > MiniXLR or RCA > XLR cables, depending on the phono stage you are connecting to.

For turntables with a MiniXLR output, you can run a MiniXLR > MiniXLR or MiniXLR > XLR cable, depending on the phono stage you are connecting to.

For turntables with a 5pin TAC output, you can purchase a 5P > MiniXLR or 5P > XLR cable.

For more information on the True Balanced Connection concept click here.

*True Balanced Connections always require a Moving Coil cartridge to be installed.

  • Older Debut turntables that do not have 78 RPM compatibility or an automatic speed controller built-in can be modified to play 78 RPM records in one of two ways, depending on the model.

You can either install the 78RPM kit, which consists of a new pulley for playback of 33 or 78 RPM records, and comes supplied with a new drive belt; or on older Debut models (supplied with a detachable 16V AC power supply) you can upgrade to the Speed Box S2 and the Speed Box Pulley for full support of 33, 45 and 78 RPM playback speeds.

Remember, when playing 78 RPM records it is always recommended to use a 78 RPM stylus, as older mono recordings can damage modern stereo cartridges due to the different way the record grooves are read.

  • The 8.6CC tonearm used on the Debut Carbon and other similar models is typically supplied with an Ortofon 2M cartridge. For that reason the turntable will normally be supplied with the 008 55g counterweight. However, there are other options available, detailed in the table below...

Counterweight Model Block Weight Cartridge Weights Supported
    080 50g 4.5 - 6.0g
    008 55g 6.5 - 8.5g
    000 65g 7.0 - 10.0g
    001 75g 11.0g+
